Russet F1 onion variety is a strong plant and matures early.
Russet F1 onion bulbs are very firm, have red flesh color, and can be stored for 3-3.5 months.
Raising Seedlings
Takes 7- 10 days to germinate
Nursery beds should be 1M wide and use well decomposed manure.
Make rows about 15cm apart, drill the seeds thinly in 1cm furrows, cover lightly with soil and Mulch.
Transplanting
7.5cm *15cm
Transplanting- after 42 days or 6-8weeks
Irrigate the field well one day before transplanting
When planting onions don’t bury them more than one inch under the soil
Water Requirements
Onions require light and frequent watering
1. At growing stage- excessive moisture should be avoided
2. Bulbing stage- need substantial amount of water
3. Increase the amount of water as plants and roots increase in size.
Nutrition Management
Soil analysis results should be used to know the nutrient of the soil prior to planting.
Phosphorus, Nitrogen and potassium should be amended at different stages of the growing period.
Major pest: Onion Thrips, Onion Fly
Major diseases: Downy mildew, Blight, Purple blotch, pink rot, Neck rot, Rust
Harvest
Harvest is done 90- 150 days depending on the variety.
After curing, sorting and grading onions are packed in the nets
