The Jambar F1 Onion variety is one of the most profitable onion varieties in Kenya. This variety is known for its uniformity in size, high yield, and disease resistance. It takes approximately four months to mature and can yield up to 30 tonnes per acre.

Ideal Growing Conditions:
Climate: Requires a warm climate, 15°C to 30°C.
Soil: Well-drained, fertile loamy soils with a pH of 6.0 to 7.0.
Rainfall: About 500-700 mm annually or supplemented with irrigation.
 Land Preparation and Planting:
Land Preparation: Deep plowing and leveling for proper water drainage.
Seedlings: Start with a nursery bed and transplant after 6-8 weeks.
Spacing: 30 cm between rows and 10 cm between plants.
 Crop Management:
Weeding: Regularly to reduce competition.
Fertilizer: Use NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium) and supplement with organic manure.
Pest and Disease Control: Watch out for thrips, downy mildew, and purple blotch.
 Harvesting and Storage:
Harvest when leaves turn yellow and bulbs are mature (usually 90-150 days after transplanting).
Cure in a dry, shaded place for 2-3 weeks for better shelf life.
